Numerical & Mathematical Evaluation of Quick Response Driver Car-following model

Abstract

Car-following model is one of the most important micro-simulation sub-models that control driver behavior with respect to the preceding vehicle in the same lane. Recent research stated that complicated car-following models are not necessarily more efficient than other simple models such as GM, and also emphasized the explanatory power of the GM model. In this research, characteristics of quick response driver model (special case of primary GM model with zero reaction time for all drivers) are analyzed for several proposed scenarios via simulation. These characteristics then are proved with first-order differential equations concept. Furthermore, quick response driver model is calibrated using one real car-following process data to identify model characteristics. In general, this study presents advantages & shortcoming as well as characteristics of quick response driver model.
